Mean Mug Coffeehouse | Our Story
We believed in Main Street
Matt Lewis and Monica Smith opened Mean Mug in 2011 on Main Street in Chattanooga. It's still locally owned and operated, and it still starts with coffee and breakfast.
We think our flagship Main Street Shop helped to grow the now booming Southside a true live, work and play part of Chattanooga.
Roasting Coffee
After six years of running our first shop, we started Mean Mug Coffee Roasters in 2017, alongside our Northshore location. We roast small batch single origins, and our Brazil South Minas is the one we call the perfect cup to hold while stoking the embers of last night's campfire.

Baked from scratch
We bake cinnamon rolls, biscuits, scones, muffins and breads in house every day. Our biscuits were featured in USA Today, and our cinnamon rolls were on Food Network's Cheap Eats. Both are made from scratch.
Four shops now
Our third and fourth locations opened in 2021, so there are four Mean Mugs today, including one in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Every one of them is locally owned and operated.
