Our Story

Established in 2011 by Matt Lewis and Monica Smith, Mean Mug Coffeehouse is a locally owned and operated restaurant and coffee bar  in Chattanooga, TN.  The Main Street location helped to pioneer the now booming Southside area- a true live, work, play area of town. The new location on the North Shore opened in October of 2017 and complements the homes and businesses that make up this cohesive and unique part of the city.

Both locations offer a full espresso menu, drip coffee, Kyoto style cold brew and slow bar options. We roast single origin coffee at the Manufacturers Road location. We feature guest roasters often and serve locally roasted Velo Boneshaker espresso and Velvet robot nitro cold brew. Our full breakfast and lunch menu is served all day featuring comfort food as well as diverse dietary options from vegan to paleo. We are passionate about coffee and food and take pride in providing a unique experience within a comfortable welcoming atmosphere. Our baked items are made in house and include biscuits, artisan pastries, breads and gluten free options.

We have been featured in USA Today for our biscuits and on the Food Network on the show Cheap Eats for our Apple Butter Cinnamon Rolls- both made from scratch.
